The relationship between art making and cultural identity will be the main focus; aiming to develop an understanding of the significance of specific practices to different cultural groups.
In this unit content is explored through an investigation of the relationship between artmaking practice, the structural and cultural frames, and the artist's connection with their world. This unit focuses on indigenous and contemporary artist's practice in creating body adornment that reflects the values and beliefs of specific cultures and groups. They will reflect on their own culture and social groups in order to provide connectedness and comparisons with their studies. Through group and individual studies, students gain an awareness, sensitivity and understanding of cultural difference and global issues affecting communities.
Students develop skills in using information and communication technologies (ICT) to research and develop their own artworks using a range of art practices and digital imagery. They explore aspects of the conceptual framework to understand how artists investigate and respond to their world and the role of the audience in creating meaning in artworks.
