Power of Partnerships
The health of individuals, groups and communities is influenced by economic, social, geographic, cultural, political and environmental circumstances (Health Education Senior Syllabus, 2004). In Indonesia, the Mentawai people live in costal and rainforest environments and face significant health inequities, predominantly with the prevalence of Malaria. The purpose of this unit is to examine the health inequities facing this population in order to explore socially just and equitable health outcomes for individuals and communities, with further analysis of the effectiveness of the SurfAid health initiatives developed for the Mentawai population.
The unit tasks are based on educational awareness and target community resources in order to Strengthen Community Action by recognizing social responsibilities and to encourage students to adopt ownership of specific health issues.
