It is so easy to be immersed in your own world and not realise that all over the world there are teenagers like you with little or no access to education and technology, living in poverty and suffering from disease. Our neighbours, the Indigenous Mentawai people endure illnesses such as malaria, cholera and dysentery, and experience a lifestyle that is evolving rapidly through increased contact with the modern world.
This unit extends on the concept of Global Citizenship by focusing on how you can persuade others to be altruistic and have empathy for the Mentawai people. The focus on persuasive techniques will enhance the quality of your presentation for your integrated assessment task.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead, anthropologist, author, intellectual 1901-1978
